Phil Knight

NIKE Founder & Chairman Phil Knight
has been a friend of KBPS since his
days as a student announcer from
Cleveland High School.
Over the years Mr. Knight has made
generous donations that, among other
things, helped the station build the
broadcast center we now call home.
He also underwrites our annual Summer
Sound program which allows us to
hire the best of our students to work
on the air over the summer.
KBPS thanks Phil Knight for his
contributions toward helping our
students achieve their dreams.
Industry Friends
One of the things the broadcast program at KBPS tries to do is give students a “real world” experience. Part of that is the professional equipment and studios they have access to. Another is what they have to work with on the air. That includes what is called “imaging”, the elements used to identify the station and transition between songs.
KBPS is fortunate to have several friends who are professionals in the broadcast industry who do station imaging for a living. They have graciously donated their services to provide KBPS with on-air imaging that otherwise we would not have been able to afford. (click the captioned names to hear the voice!)
During the hours KBPS airs “Kid Rhythm Radio” (weekdays 6am-3pm) the main image voice you hear is that of Randy Thomas. Randy is probably best know as the voice of Entertainment Tonight & The Insider. She has also announced the Academy Awards; The Emmy Awards; The Daytime Emmy Awards; The Tony Awards; & numerous specials for the American Film Institute. Randy’s daughter Rachel is also heard on “Kid Rhythm Radio”.
During the rest of our broadcast day, the image voicing you hear is provided by two of the country’s top broadcast professionals – Charlie Van Dyke and Bobby Ocean. Charlie Van Dyke has worked at some of the top radio stations in the nation, including KLIF in Dallas, CKLW in Windsor/Detroit, KHJ Los Angeles, KFRC in San Francisco, WLS Chicago, WRKO in Boston and KRTH Los Angeles. He is heard now as the image voice for numerous radio and television stations across the country.
Bobby Ocean is a California radio legend. He has worked at top rated stations throughout the state including KGB and KCBQ San Diego, KHJ Los Angeles and KFRC San Francisco. His career spans more than four decades. He currently has his own broadcast imaging and production company in Northern California.
The voice you hear introducing KBPS broadcasts of PIL Football and Basketball is none other than NBC Sportscaster Bob Costas.

Bob Costas has worked for NBC since the early 1980s. Costas has been the studio host for National Football League coverage, and done play-by-play for the NBA and Major League Baseball. Bob also hosts a sports series on HBO. Costas has also frontlined many Olympic broadcasts for NBC beginning at the Barcelona games in 1992. He has won multiple sportscaster of the year awards from the National Sportscaster and Sportswriter Association and he has received numerous Emmy Awards for outstanding sports announcing.
KBPS is grateful to Randy & Rachel Thomas, Charlie Van Dyke, Bobby Ocean and Bob Costas for their generous contribution to our effort to provide a quality broadcast experience to our students!
